Q&A With a PRO :Make Up Artist Jenny

If you're a bit into Korean music, more known as KPOP, you've probably heard of EXO which is very popular band over there! Today I would like to introduce you to Jenny who is KAI's Make-Up Artist. I know you're all pretty excited, so let's get started right away !

BANKALL MAGAZINE : Firstly, the question that we're all asking ourselves ,how did you know you wanted to make a career in the beauty industry? JENNY JUNG : Since when I was a high school student, I was already into make-up, I love playing with colors, and I was eager to learn the basics of doing it. With much interest, I was very eager to achieve my dream of becoming a professional make-up artist. I find pleasure in doing make-up and feel elated that im finally reaching my dreams.

What’s your biggest challenge? JJ: I am planning to make a youtube channel to introduce Korean make up style and techniques to the world.

But If you mean to ask what is the most difficult challenge I had. So far, I don’t have one yet, except that I don’t have time for myself. I am always busy attending my make-up needs and doing research on other possible cosmetics that I can develop.

Trends change at a quick pace, how do you keep up with it ? JJ: My clients vary from Kpop stars, models, actors and actresses. So, make-up trend is not really applicable to me. What matters is I have to know the type of songs (Kpop stars), the theme(models), and the genre (actors and actress) then I can decide the appropriate make-up.

You have worked with a lot of celebrities like Kai from Exo, Jung Il Woo, Go Hara, Park Jihoon from WannaOne and the list goes on and on, how did you meet them and started working with them ?

JJ: Around 20 years ago, I started working at a famous hair and make-up salon in Gangnam. I worked hard learning the ropes of being an expert. With much patience and desire to become famous one day, I stayed in the salon for seven long years. And that’s how I met these famous celebrities. From then on, stories about them looking great with how they look spread like wildfire. I was glad that they were appreciate my expertise in giving them a look that enhances their natural beauty. Later on, I decided to put up my own shop and I felt proud of myself for my dreams almost come to reality.

I saw that you launched a brand of cosmetics, Congratulations! How did you get the idea? What has motivated you ? JJ: I used different cosmetics and make-up products for different clients since each one of them has different skin types, and color. I realized that these products has its good thing and side effect also. That made me think, “ why not make my own line?” that will fit perfectly no matter what skin type and color they have. With constant study and research, I successfully made these products. And hopefully, I will be launching another product in the near future.

What type of shopper are you aiming for ? JJ: People from different walks of life. My first product was Numink, this can be used by the younger ones and oldies as well. We all know that first impressions last, that’s why most people do care about their facial skin. The second one I have is BUNLAB, this liptint comes in 5 different shades, perfect for any skin color and any occasions.

What is the most popular item from your brand? JJ: I should say the most popular would be the VELVET LIPTINT from BUNLAB. Celebrities always has to put on lip color, but later on they are have chapped lips. But with my product,their lips stay moisturized that’s why they love it. The different lip shades I have were tested and approved by many celebrities as well.

Many people are having trouble finding a good skincare routine, can you give us yours? JJ: Humbly saying, I think I am blessed enough to have good skin. But to those who are having skin problem, whether it’s a minor or major one. The best skin routine advise I can give is not to put on a lot of products on your face, LESS IS BEST. Never sleep with your make-up on. Wash with a mild cleanser, DON’T USE TOWEL to dry off your face. While face is damp, immediately put on toner, essence, moisturizer and most importantly, mask pack. And when its day time, follow the same procedure and use sunblock instead of mask pack. Do this daily and you will achieve the kind of skin glow you wished for.

You've worked on several TV shows such as Haechi but also for photo shoots and KCON, which do you like more? I don’t have any preference because I enjoy what I do. For tv shows like Kdrama, aside from doing make-up, I get to be on the set as well. If the drama is to be shoot in another country, I can visit there as well. Business and pleasure as they say. Later on, seeing the drama played on TV makes beam with pride. With photo shoot, I can show my creativeness. Different concepts calls for different make-up as well.

For Korean concerts, I get to have a chance to be in the venue, feeling the tension from the crowd and still enjoying my work. They say, “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life”, and now I am living by it.

What's your make-up signature? JJ: A make-up style that not only enhances the natural look of the person but will also make her glow and stand out from the crowd.

Do you have any stories that stayed with you as a Makeup artist? JJ: The first time I saw myself on TV as a professional make-up artist.
